Based on a true story, Lilacs in the Dust Bowl is an inspirational family saga about love and heartache during the Great Depression.

Lukia Mazurets, a Ukrainian peasant farmer, and her children immigrate to Canada in the summer of 1929, just before the stock market crashes and the Great Depression begins.

Falling grain prices, the ravages of nature, and unexpected family conflicts threaten to smash her dreams of family unity in a strange land. In the midst of these grim times, love knocks on her door again. Awakening desire she thought was long gone. She now has to choose between having a man in her life or the children she’s sacrificed everything for.

Lilacs in the Dust Bowl is both a Historical Fiction and a Biographical Fiction, based on the author’s grandmother’s life.

This story is a sequel to Diana Stevan’s award-winning novel, Sunflowers Under Fire. However, readers would not be lost if they only read Lilacs in the Dust Bowl.
