Second Draft

I find revising my novel a fascinating process. Much to my surprise, I love discovering my mistakes and correcting them.

The other thing that came to mind while I was editing was a comment a fellow writer said. “Why are you writing about something you don’t know?” She was referring to all the research I needed to do in order to tell my story. In the writing field ‘write what you know’ is a sensible way to start. But I also believe it’s essential to write what you love. And what I love to do is to learn about the things I do not know. It’s almost as good as traveling to other cultures and experiencing them firsthand. In writing The Curse of the Stones, I learned about marine archaeology, scuba diving, underwater photography, treasure hunting, and cursing in Ireland. More than enough to keep me going for awhile.
