I just finished reading Jane Friedman’s blog, No Rules, where she discusses the popularity of e-readers and future prospects for hardcover and paperback books. Though a diehard book reader, the kind that uses paper, I have been stunned by my husband’s enthusiasm for e-readers. He is disinterested in computers, but not that long ago, embraced the i touch and read James Joyce’s Ulysses on the tiny screen. I was appalled. That is a mammoth book, but he loved the journey and has since graduated to a Kindle. I peer over his shoulder once in awhile, but there is something cold about it. I do however, understand the attraction. At the same time, it’s not for everyone. For me, there is no greater pleasure than flipping the paper pages of a book.
